I've never shear any studs off, but back when I was only running 4 stud axles (Strange 31 spline) I bend all 4 studs, two different times. Certain people claimed it was because I had loose lug nuts. Trust me, they were never loose. I always torque them to 100 ft-lbs with a torque wrench and check them before going to the track.

I switched to Moser 5 stud axles. And now I'm running the lug nuts that have a flat washer and a straight shank that goes all the way through the Weld rims. My car is over a second quicker now (high 9's) and I have had zero problems. I don't know if it was fixed because of the fifth stud, or because of the shank style nuts (I used to only run the acorn factory style nuts with factory 10 hole rims).

Hope this helps.
