When you are on street tires especially regular tires you should not go threw the water box or even get them wet! All you need to do is just give them a quick spin to clean them off. As goes for the drag radials, I would do the same and smoke them up. In another words, do a dry burn out until you feel a slight drag on the motor or a decent amount of hazing from the tires. Leave the water box for the people running drag slicks.

When you do a burn out with a manual transmission, you simply just dump the clutch to get the wheels spinning and with your left foot press the brake pedal. Try getting some practice on the street to profect this. Once you have mastered this go to your nearest drag strip and give a spin!
