Which bodystyle did the 89 gt's have?
Im looking at buying an 89 mustang, but do not know whether it is a gt or an lx or just the base. The car does have a small ford engine and and auto trans, but is a carbed engine. I thought the 89's had fuel injection. Could they have swapped it over to a carb?

As far as I know, all '89 GT's were hatch backs, and came with the 5.0 HO injected engine.
Edit: Oooops, I forgot the convertible.

The 89 GTs came in two body styles, they were available in both hatchback and convertible models. LX's could also be bought with 5.0L H.O. engines and came in all three body styles.
85 was the last year of the carbureted GT and it came out with the T-5. The injected model (CFI) came with the automatic transmission.

get ahold of the VIN, then try going to this site>
http://www.mustanggt.org/main.htm choose "info by year" then "'82-'93 Mustang VIN Codes" This should help you figure out what the car had from the factory, but it sounds like someone has done some mods. J

I agree, The 1982 to 1993 Mustang GT Registry is the place to go. The site builders have compiled lots of information on 82-93 GTs.
It is too easy to put some GT ground effects, front bumper, mouldings and swap in a 5.0 on any Fox Mustang if someone is so inclined.

Sounds like a frankenstein car! Why anyone would swap a carbed 4 cylinder into a gt is beyond me. If it has the ground effects and the round foglights, that's a gt. If it's a 4 cylinder, it's a 2.8, a 6 cylinder, it's a 3.8 and 8 cylinder, she's a 5.0.
I think if it does turn out that it is an 89 with an earlier 4 cylinder motor, you should leave this one alone. It probably has a very sketchy past to have ended up like that.
