Default Re: Shift Selector Light

My 68 didn't come with a console so I'm not sure if it will be exactly as yours (I assume it would be). On mine, it has a metal cylinder with the bulb inside. On the outside of the cyclinder it has a clip, which I believe was welded to the cylinder. The two prongs squeeze together and then it clips into a rectangular opening in the shift rod. Your prongs may have broken off. When I took mine out to replace the burned out bulb it was so far rusted I destroyed the bottom end trying to get the bulb out. Couldn't find anyone who sold that part so i ended up doing a lot of jimmy-rigging with duct tape to keep the bulb in the cylinder and replaced the whole light socket with one from AutoZone. Works great now and noone can see the awful contraption I created. If your clips are broke off you may have to use some duct tape and strap it to the shaft rod where it's supposed to go.
