Should I put in a cam when I rebuild motor?
Should I stay with stock cam? I'll be running the heads in my Sig. same intake too but mabye a cobra or typhoon. I was thinking of getting the comp xtreme energy XE264HR, I forget specs but it made 300 HP in a head test in MMFF tech guide (long tubes,air gap intake,carb,CHP shortblock) so I don't expect that.
But should I upgrade the cam?No big deal to go to mass air cause all I need is Injectors. Also I want to spray it with 100-150 shot!! Any suggestions aprieciated

I'd put a cam in it. I would go really big but i would deffinitly but a cam in it.

Specs on cam are:
.512 lift, 212/218 @.050 114LSA Lift with my 1.7 RR's would be .544, I hope that's not too much as my heads are milled .035"

any other opinions?
I'll prob add intake but plan to stick with my E7's, I got a lot of BS&T invested in them. Is a cam worth it? I have seen cars make good power with stockers & I don't want a poorly matched intake,cam,head set up. Anyone ever put a cam in a stock headed 5.0, are power gains noticable? I know 88WORKCAR was running a b-303 w/speed density with no prob, I don't think I want a ford cam & can switch to mass air easily as I mentioned. Thanks, Wes

Sure, you have to put a cam in it. Call a cam manufacture [Crane]and ask what they recomend. Don't go too big. So many people put "way too much" cam in and make the car a bear to drive and actually lose power.
You need to balance the cam with the other modifications.

As Gearhead999 said, the best thing to do would be to call manufacturers and tell them what parts you already have and what you want from your engine. They should be able to help you out.

I bought a used lunati #51027 .509 lift in,ex 218 in. 222 ex. duration at .050 112 LCA, summit web site says 218/226 on dur. Anyway got it for $82 list at summit for $279.95
Heads are prob in future anyway so I'll throw in cam when I rebuild and see how it does with ported E7's for awhile

Will this cam be streetable with my home ported E7's?
I read a post that a guy said the lunati part # 51027 is a pain on the street because of low vacum 218/226 .509 lift 112 LCA Should I even put it in?

The cam is a 2000-6000rpm cam for the 351W or 302HO according to the Holley website.
51027LUN .496/.502 218/224 276/281 2000-6000rpm. Application Hot street or Pro Street. The HO cam is a good grind and you're not going to be picking up much power with the E7's, while I expect you'll lose quite a bit of low end torque. The cam favors the exhaust side WAY too much. With an N/A setup on E7s, I see no reason to favor the exhaust. |

That cam will be just fine, I have a holly that is close to that, I also have a TFS that is close to that. I also have a reground X from cam motion that is just a little stiffer than those. Ported stock heads, cobra, cam, I ran as good as 12.40s at 1.9. Stock injectors and SD. I just tore up a bottom end, which is why I have been a little quiet. I have a set of ported hollys with the TFS in it a systemax intake, still SD and 19lb injectors. It went 11.88 @ 114 but was steady getting faster as I took fuel press away. I started at 45psi, and was down to 39psi. I ran great and I was setting up a 175 shot on it, but a rod bearing let go. So the 342 will be put in next. Put the cam in or you can have one of these, but you need a cam. Are your heads ported? I have set of killer E7s and these hollys are for sale also, both sets are ported real nice.

How much for the holly heads? Are they the systemax heads?
I dunno how many stang heads holly makes?

Yes they are Systemax, PM me. I would go back to a 1.6 RR, All those cams are recomended for use with a 1.6.

who makes those lifters than bleed off oil, so you can run a larger cam and still keep your downlow vacum?? I dont know if that will help you out or not..
