Knowledge Needed on 5.0 Mustang Engine
Howdy out there, i'm a chick and i know hardly anything about cars. I was wondering if someone could tell me what the specs are on the 5.0 mustang engine. I'm looking to buy this ford bronco II and it has this engine in it. I was just curious to see what exactly that means. Thanks everyone!

Re: Knowledge Needed on 5.0 Mustang Engine
The 5.0L is a great engine and very durable.
The pre-1993 (stock) 5.0L V-8 HP rating was 225, Torque was 300 lb/ft and the compression ratio was 9.0 (used regular gas). The 5.0 had Mass Air, EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) and standard ignition (has a distributor). 5.0 liters of displacement translates to 302 cubic inches, which is a very decent displacement size...not too big - or too tiny. The later Mustang V-8's are a 4.6L displacement or 281 cubic inches, just as a comparison. Gas mileage isn't great (in the high teens, usually) but the performance makes up for that. Highly recommended engine, even in a Bronco.

Re: Knowledge Needed on 5.0 Mustang Engine
thanks so much mr. 5 0, your info helped out tremendously. I'm a teenager looking to buy my first car and i'd like something in the small suv range so it's good to know there are people in the world that still know what the hell they are talking about. Haha, thanks again.

Re: Knowledge Needed on 5.0 Mustang Engine
Technically the Mustang 5.0 has been around since 1982 so I'd be asking the seller what year that 5.0 is. (Prior to 1982 the engine was referred to as the 302) In 1983-1985 there were two versions of the 5.0 in the Mustang. A carbeurated version with a 4bbl carbeurator, and a CFI (central fuel injected) engine. There were significant differences in the power production of the two engines.
1982 - 157hp@4200rpm, 240lb/ft@2400rpm 2bbl 1983 - 175hp@4200rpm, 245lb/ft@2400rpm 4bbl 1984 - 175hp@4200rpm, 245lb/ft@2400rpm 4bbl 1984 - 165hp@3800rpm, 245lb/ft@2000rpm CFI 1985 - 210hp@4400rpm, 270lb/ft@3200rpm 4bbl 1985 - 165hp@3800rpm, 245lb/ft@2000rpm CFI 1985 - 180hp@4200rpm, 260lb/ft@2600rpm CFI - HO 1986 - 200hp@4000rpm, 285lb/ft@3000rpm HO 1987 - 225hp@4200rpm, 300lb/ft@3200rpm HO 1988 - 225hp@4200rpm, 300lb/ft@3200rpm HO 1989 - 225hp@4200rpm, 300lb/ft@3200rpm HO 1990 - 225hp@4200rpm, 300lb/ft@3200rpm HO 1991 - 225hp@4200rpm, 300lb/ft@3200rpm HO 1992 - 225hp@4200rpm, 300lb/ft@3200rpm HO 1993 - 205hp@4200rpm, 285lb/ft@3200rpm HO 1993 - 235hp@4600rpm, 280lb/ft@4000rpm Cobra 1994 - 215hp@4200rpm, 285lb/ft@3200rpm GT 1994 - 240hp@4600rpm, 285lb/ft@4000rpm Cobra 1995 - 215hp@4200rpm, 285lb/ft@3200rpm GT 1995 - 240hp@4600rpm, 285lb/ft@4000rpm Cobra As far as desirability, I'd rate them in this order. 1993 Cobra 1994-1995 Cobra 1987-1988 HO 1989-1992 HO 1993 HO 1985 4bbl 1986 HO 1983-1984 4bbl 1982 2bbl 1985 CFI HO 1984-1985 CFI |
