![]() Disc brakes are definatly a big plus. I don't think it is manatory that you install disc for 17" wheels though.
If you're going to drive car....the disc make the drive and the stopping much easier. Less pulling, surer stops and little to no fade. If it were me, I'd do it just for the safety factor.
