I'm using a rebuilt 8.8 from a 91GT. What is the stock gear that they come with and what would be the best gear to upgrade to for street/strip?

If the 91GT was auto, they are 3.08 gears. If it was a stick car, 2.73 gears. I like the 4.10's I have with my t5. Most people will tell you to go with 3.73's. They will give you the best seat of the pants feel, while getting decent mileage. The 3.55's won't give you the feel that the 3.73's will, but you'll get a little better mileage. My car is a hot rod I don't care about gas mileage. That's why I have 4.10's. I am even thinking of going to a 4.30 or 4.56 gear. Ulitmately, your gear selection is based on your engine's power band. Since you are still going to drive the car on the street, I suggest 3.73 gears. What size tire are you planning on using?

I just read your other post about the engine again. I see you are using the AOD transmission. Since that's the case, I wouldn't even hesitate to put 4.10's in that car.

Good question, I haven't figured that out yet. Currently I have 215/65 15's with 15x10 race lites. I'll go 4.10's then

Go with the 4.10's don't even slow down on the way past the 3.73's I had 4.30's in my stick car, and was planning the 4.56 swap this winter, but things changed. Go for it!

Hey, speaking of gears. I got to thinking about this today, my 4.30's left with the car, and the new car has a 9" in her.

Soooooo I have a set of LIKE NEW (but used) 4.10's for an 8.8" that I'm not gonna use if anyone needs them. I also have ONE 28 spline limited slip center section for an 8.8 left as well as a set of stock 28 spline axles. Need room for Fairlane parts, No reasonable offer refused. ![]()

How used? What kind? Brand new from Summit, Richmond Gears, like $230 I think. I would just want the 4.10 gears, and how much is involved in the install? Shimming? I've never done one, but I've replaced axles before. That's what I get for being a diesel mech.

Like $100 and you can have them! I put 3 passes on them and realized I needed more gear, yanked 'em out. Very little wear pattern on them, their Ford Racing gears.

If you're a diesel mechanic, you'll have NOOO problem puttin these puppy's in. All kinds of literature on the net about it. In fact, I'll even copy the "factory" install instructions. If you know which end of a wrench to hold, it's not a big deal. Just have to be really anal about it, and no worries bro! ![]()
