Default Re: PROS & CONS BUYING AN ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP

this is really personal choice, there are pro and cons for both elec and mech. pumps. elec pumps make a lil noise before you startup and its easy to tell when they aint working, mech pumps are harder to change out if one goes out, but its tucked up by the engine out of the way and if the engine isnt runnin it aint pumpin gas, unlike the elec if you get a leak you could empty the tank and never know it. myself this is what ive run for years (see link) holley makes some good mech pumps and the good part is they are rebuildable you can just order a kit from holley when it goes bad and you goin again.. im sure some guys like the elec pumps and ive used them on the street before and on my race stuff but my street cars are mech now....my 2 cents

Hi Okiedragster

I read what you said about mechanical fuel pumps and I think that one of 'em will suit my needs.

I'm building a moderate performance engine will help from great guys like yourself on this board, and I don't want to get too crazy with having a HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE.

The only thing that I don't know (plus, lots of other stuff about engines) is:

I picked 3 possible mechanical holly fuel pumps. Here's what confusing me

one pumps: 80gph, other110gph and lastly: 130gph

G(is for GAS)? P(is for PER)? H(is for HOUR)?

THAT COULDN'T MEAN: GAS BURNED PER HOUR i.e. 80gph I would use-up 80gals.of GAS!!! NO, THAT JUST CAN'T BE RIGHT.
See I told you I was lost in the woods (PLEASE EXPLAIN)

Pressures are: 71/2 on the 80gph
Pressures are: 6.5 to 8 on the 110gph
Pressures are: 7.5 to 9 on the 130gph

Can you or you other guys out there please explain these numbers I'm lost in the woods again . . . lol

I'm looking for something a little above average for my '66 convert.
Can you give me some suggestions please as to which one of these pumps would best fit my applications

THANK FOR YOU PATIENTS.
GOD BLESS
Schooner
