If it is split, it is tighten too much.

Make sure the pan rails are flat. Make sure that the bolt holes are dimpled in. If any of this is present. Flatten them. Then with a new gasket you shouldn't have any problem. Don't over tighten the pan either. Just snug, the pan bolts are only holding the tin trans pan on, not a connecting rod bearing.
