All motors are not created equal.
If im using a after market dist. I ink the gear up and run it a minute. This tells me where my gear is sitting in relation to the cam gear. Nothng like having a gear burn up in a hundred miles. So far, MSD have been bad for gear placement from the factory. You can measure your old dist for correct gear placement. Thats if it was ok from the factory. Also as above you don't want your oil shaft in a bind, as well as the dist bottoming out.
