I always thought that would be a great idea for the aftermarket, coupe to fastback conversion kits. I believe though when you go cutting that large of a section out, you take alot of the support for the car with it, which welding might not be strong enough for. I figure this from the 69 camaro reproduction bodys, as there is a piece of sheetmetal that only comes in that due to the fact if somebody at home tried to replace just that piece it would probably turn south on them in a hurry. (I believe it was some piece of sheetmetal by the rear seat) The only way i could see it happening is if you left everything but the rear quarters and window channel, though im sure that could/would turn into a hack job real quick. (unless your a pro) Do as you will, im sure its been done before, as i have seen just the fastback part being sold on ebay for a 65 once.
