I'd go with the Edelbrock water pump. But, why Edelbrock everything? The intake, sure, they're about the best with intakes. But if you went with a CompCams cam, and maybe RHS, AFR, or even World products heads you could probably make a lot more power. Sticking with one company is OK, but you're limiting yourself too much. Look at the numbers Edelbrock shows for their Performer or Performer RPM packages, I don't know what engine you're running, but I'm sure that with a little more research you could get alot more bang for your buck.

I thought that I had responded to 66-351 but I don't see it so it may have been a "senior moment". Anyway, I am not overly familiar with engine work so I wanted to keep things as simple as possible and to make sure that everything would be completely compatible. I already had the Edelbrock intake and carb and was happy with them so I decided to stick with something I like. I am told that my combination will give me approx 330 HP which should be adequate for my needs. I just want a bit more ooomph. Also, every now and then I enjoy showing the kids with their rice burners what a real car can do. Perhaps I am easily amused.
Regarding my wife's attitude toward spending money on a 40 year-old car, every now and then I remind her that it may be expensive but at least it is not another woman. I'm not sure if that is well received but at least it diverts her attention. E.

About the wife, mine says that my 66 coupe IS the other woman, but she understands. Her understanding of it is, "I love my car like women love shoes", so she don't mind. Back on the engine, the combo I'm going with will be making around 480-500hp, on pump gas. I don't just want to beat the little punk in the ricer, I want to DESTROY him, haha. But let me know what kind of engine you're building and I'll see if I can help you out.

Well, I suppose it depends on what you want to do with your toy. I have a stock 302 with a C4 transmission. As mentioned, it has an Edelbrock Performer intake and carb. It already does OK but I'd like a bit more performance. I think that the new Edelbrock heads, cam, rockers, etc will give me what I want. As a matter of fact, we are installing the new stuff this week. The next step will be to beef up the transmission. I have a plan for that. I admire the 500 HP machines but it would be over-kill for me. All I want is a good looking, head turning classic with a throaty rumble and the ability to do a bit of a burn if I choose to. E.

Hey, you have to build it for how you're gonna use it. So good job on the 330hp out of a 302. Have you tried a Lunati cam? They give good power, no overkill, and they have one helluva rumble. Also, as far as heads, if you could find a set of 69 351W heads, put larger valves, port and polish, it would give you the same power as the Edelbrock heads for about half the price. But if you went that route, you would have to use the intake from a 351W, since the deck height is different.

It's a bit late for me to shop around now as I already bought all of the pieces. Who knows, I may want to do some upgrades later but for now I think I'll let the dust settle and try to restore some marital bliss. I'll let you know what I think about these changes when I get them done. E.

I with you E, i dont need a 10 sec car. specialy not in the body of a classic now a 2000-2007 thats a differnt story. since i have had my car the only thing i have never liked about it was the motor. the way it looked the way it ran. i just wanted it to look good and have a bit of performance aswell, i went with the edelbrock parts because like you i wanted it to be consistant and the fact that i get a 20% discount on edel parts =X. but for the most part edelbrock is a good name in parts and performance and it was just what i was looking for.

I used to use 351W heads on my 302. They work fine with the Edelbrock Performer intake for the 302. It's only when you are using the 351W block with the taller deck height that you need the 351W intake.
