Dealer mechanics frequently don't know what they are talking about. Or you may have asked the wrong question. According to everything I have read, Ford went to great pains to design the Cobra IRS so that it would fit a standard Mustang chassis, IOW, it is supposed to fit with no modifications to the chassis. It hardly makes sense for them to then turn around and design a new V6 chassis that will no longer accept the V8 rear axle.
