I used a one-piece gasket on a chevy 350 about a year ago and felt that it was worth every cent. I used a fel-pro gasket that included the inserts that hold the gasket in place for you. It was a quality piece and made the job much easier. I'm sure the four piece will probably still do a good job if you don't want to spare the extra change. Maybe someone else can tell you if it was helpful on a 302. Good luck either way you go!!
