The official mustang price guide 2000-2001 has the following info: 1964 1/2 =6cyl 170-1V U-code; 289 4V =D code; 289 4V K code(hipo) coupe & convert. the 170 is standard W/3 speed. 260 1v F CODE optionalw/3 speed ,289 w/4 speed , and the 289 'hi-po' w/4 speed. The 'hi-po' was only available after June 1st {1964}.Also the 289 eng for 64 is the low compression & is the 210 hp. unit.[ the others are The "K" code is 271 hp. , 289 'A' code is 225 hp(gt) The
shelby "k" motor is the 306 hp. unit only avil in the 65 & up cars.
