Hi Jim,
I've got one setting on my desk right now, so I have the same problem. One of the guys at work, who's on vacation this week, told me he knows how and we're going to try it next week. What he's telling me is that he takes a piece of welding wire, fishes it through the spring and the compresses it in a bench vise and them ties the wire off. He then takes a pair of channel locks and sticks it into place and cuts the wire. Sounds kind of like disarming bombs to me.

I'll let you know if it works. If someone else has a better (safer sounding) method, I'd like to hear it. That @$%^& latch has bent my door.
