66 Racer,
The key thing here is how much work are you wanting to do? The machine work will cost you at least $500.00, then if you want to upgrade your cam & lifters, which I highly recommend, then you will need another $150. You mentioned NOS, you better upgrade your head and connecting rod bolts another $100. This all will not include bearings, gaskets, timing chain, water pump, etc..

Bottom line is you might pull off a rebuild for this price but not a high performance one. I am building a 393w stroker and it will be running me about $2500. This is with alot of ebaying and swap meets finding good deals.
