It'd be real tought to be a top contender with the 3.55's. I ran 3.55's during the '98 season and it just isn't enough gear to get the 60' times needed. I was usually 0.10-0.20 seconds slower out of the hole which put me even further behind at the big end.
I don't think the GT-40P heads would make a very good SC head. No matter how heavily you port them (not allowed in T/S BTW), you're only going to get a finite amount of flow through them. For moving massive amounts of air in a SC motor, I think you'd want to switch over to something like the GT-40X or TFS TW heads.
