We were just in the market for an "economical" car and decided on the Jetta GLS. Granted, I went from a 99Gt to the Jetta so I am not impressed with the power but it is a great car. If I had it to do all over again, I would. If you are going more for economics, rather than looks, I would possibly go with the Civic.
