You may want to think about a chip from www.customchip.com. Its a new company, but they will soon make their name as the best chip for Mustangs w/ the 4R70W. I have no affilation w/ them, I just know the work they have done, and its speaks for itself.
Its basically the same company that did my chip (impossible to explain), and it dropped my 1/4 time from 15.8@88 stock, to 15.2@91 with the chip and 80mm MAF. I now will be in the 14's w/ traction next time I go back to the track.
The stock transmission function from Ford really needs help. It shifts way to early and not hard enough. Plus they'll lock up the TC earlier (more power to the wheels through effiency), bump your timing, burn in MIL elims for an offroad pipe, and you can have a transfer function put in so you can use a 80mm or 90mm MAf from a Lightning. They change a whole lot w/ the chip, way more then I mentioned. Don't even think of an off the shelf chip like superchips or diablosport or any of them. I have been in auto mustangs w/ them and they suck.
OK, I sound like a commerical, but my chip has done so much for my car.

1997 Thunderbird 4.6L: Dynomax cat-back, MN-12 perf. offroad downtubes and Y-pipe w/ Magnaflow resonator, 80mm MAF with cone filter, B&M trans cooler, Inject-Tech chip, MAC U/D pulleys, KVR front brake upgrade. 15.2 @ 91 before exhaust & pulleys. Not bad for a 3800lb auto 4.6L

No Longer own: 91 LX 5.0L 5 spd
