yeah, 88 was the last year for the t tops. however, in my 81, i replaced the weatherseals for the ttops to roof, and ttops to doors, and they haven't leaked a drop since. some say that the t tops make the car weaker, but throw in a pair of subframes and you're set. if you like the t tops look, you can get an 87-88, replace the seals for like $120, and be fine.

There's alot of variety out there and it's hard to find one on the lot that looks good and has either a stock engine or one that hasn't been set up wrong by someone who made unlogical performance combinations. I've had 4 mustangs in the last 10 years. 2 sold 1 in therapy and one toy that i still drive weekly. 2 of them were Speed Density and 2 were MassAir. If you go with the 87-88 speed density 5.0 you will have the ability to create alot more RWHP with bolt on mods and you will also be able to change heads and cam down the line when you get serious with only minor computer adjustments. The Fuel system reacts to modification MUCH better on the Speed Density car. BUT when you decide that you want for example, a more aggresive cam and some wild heads or an Edlebrock Victor Manifold with a 100 shot of spray you will need to convert to mass air. It's a 2 hour $200 - $350 job and you might be able to pull the parts from a deceased 5.0 making even cheaper. I've had to stop and open the hood on more than one occassion just to prove that i wasn't spraying my 87 pony. I hope you find a good one!

Yeah I planned on looking into a more stock one. Doesn't have to be bone stock. If it has exhaust or a few minor things that doesn't bother me but a medium modification car I won't go w/.

On the wheel well issue, supposedly, its the trim piece on the GTs at the front of the wheel well. These can be replaced with the 91-92 pieces if necessary. On my '88, it wasn't necessary and I'm running a 255/40-17. Hmmmm...maybe the +2.5 degrees of caster's working here.

You can add the '88 to your list if you stumble upon a California car, they were the only ones that came with MAF instead of SD. Imagine that, the CA cars got something of value before the other states, doesn't happen often. Good luck with your search

The driving force behind the mass air cars was the need for better emmissions, and that why CA got them first.

I replaced the inner fender on my 93 with one from an 88' and it fit with no problems. You can see the difference in wheel well sizes if you looked at the two inner fenders closely and compared them. its not much, but there is a difference. I dont think the GT trim pieces had anything to do with it?

Well I knew '88s came as MAF in California but I wouldn't know how to identify them out in the boonies in Pennsylvania. Is there a way to identify them besides asking the owner. I wouldn't know if the owner would knew because it would most likely be a passed down car for a couple of owners.

Is there any identification spots I could see if it was MAF.

Hope it doesn't sound toooooo.... stupid of a question I just know the years when they were produced.

If you see a MAF meter between the air cleaner and the throttle body, its MAF. if not, its speed density. Real simple. You do know where the air cleaner and throttle body are, dont you?

for those of us who actally have stripped many a mustang would know what there is not way in hell that thewre is only a 20lbs difference..the 89 sounds about righ...poeple saying 200-300 isnt right UNLESS you are compariing a 87 notch to a 90-93 GT..just guestimating but the sides weigh about 10lbs a peice, the rear bumper weighs about 10 lbs more, the front another 10lbs more and the foglight assembly another 20-30lbs..dont forget the weigth diffrence in seats in GT;s and LXs when the 5.0s came i the LX originally(87-88)...87 notchback was the lightest EFI mustang ever made..my 87 notch ex 4 banger is even lighter!
