Yup that's the old R1 in the pic, I'd definately have that checked out on your VFR. The new R1's are , and they also have a Yamaha Credit card, no payments until Jan. 03!

Yeah, I was hip to the no payment til 03 deal.. but I wanted something comfortable and well.. I sat on a R1 and either the pegs on those kinda bikes aren't as cramped as they once were or my legs can handle it better now.. I don't know which. In the late 80's I sold bikes and once I got on a hurricane(cbr) or simular bike my legs would get a cramp, not now though(hmm).

How is it these guys with the R6s are running low 10s?? How can these smaller bikes run with a liter bike?? Its been awhile since I was really into bikes but this really baffles me. Low 10s with a R1 and low 10s with a R6... how can this be??

Show me a near stock R6 running low 10's, no way, without alot of work, or a hardcore drag racing set-up.

Why is that hard to believe?? An'01 R6 runs 10.75@127 stock, and the ZX-6R runs 10.92@125 stock, CBR 600F4i's run 10.71@127 stock, GSXR600 10.69@127. They respond well to mods.

Mine runs a best of 10.32@135 with just an exhaust system, K&N, and Jetted.... The 600's have taken a HUGE leap over the past few years. The litrebikes mostly run about a half a second quicker typically, but they have the huge top speeds, and alot more torque! I want one BAD! I'd still dump the 600 in a heartbeat for one!

Yup, that looks like low 10's to me. Heck, if we are talking mod'ed ones, my R1 could easily be a 9.90 bike with a few bolt ons.

nahhh, I'm just sayin, it doesn't take too much work to get them down, that's all.... Don't worry, the R-1 is still the best! 600's are still just 600's, not even in the same class, never will be. I want one in the worst way, that's right, you'll be hitting 9's easy on it. No worries!

No, no, no, I wasn't saying the R1 is the best, or anything like that. When I think of low 10's , I think of like 10.1's, 2's, 3's. I had 2 R6's and loved them to death, killer bikes, and very fast. Your running some killer times on your 6R!

My fault, I got the impression of low 10s because 1fastchick was running 130 traps and JL is running 10.32@135(not an R1) and they were joking around about racing so I took that to mean it would be close. I've read that the VFR800 could handle the 600s but it only runs like 11.14 from what I remember reading.. from the times JL posted it seems I have a dog here..

Unfortunately, I've never been able to duplicate that time, usually it's 10.5, 10.6... Who knows!
Do you have a pic of your new R-1 yet? Is it the silver one? I like the looks of those, I'm considering going yamaha the next time around, but then again the GSXR's are lookin good too!!! I rode a buddy's GSXR1000, and couldn't keep the wheel down and the smile off my face the entire time! I didn't want to give it back that's for sure! My bike just wasn't the same after that ride!
I haven't driven the ZX-6R in about a month now due to threads showing on the back tire, gotta save for some Dunlops!

It was a hard decision, but I got the red one. I went up there, and a good friend owns the dealership, he had all three lined up, Red it was.

Thanks 1BAD89, I was looking for comfort not speed but its easy to get caught up in it. I ran into a pack of bikes this weekend and a ZX12 rode one wheel past me and well... its addictive(kinda like with the mustangs). If they don't fix whatever is wrong with this VFR though, I will be looking at the R1.

Its been 12 yrs since I rode a VMAX and I remember thinking that bikes were wicked fast.. for some reason they just don't seem as fast as they once seemed...

Nick

Hey congrats on the new bike! Can't wait to get my new one. Never been much of a yamaha person though. On the subject of that new V-Rod..what a jip! They were originally supposed to be Harleys key to getting younger people into hogs but all the dealerships get them and put a 10k+ markup on their already hefty pricetag. What kinda young person can afford that?!? Nice bikes but not that nice. Heh I never had to worry about my folks throwing a fit about me getting a bike. They both have bikes and have been riding since before I was born. We have like 12 bikes at the house. 2 are mine, 3 my moms, 5 dads and 2 parts bikes. We have tham everywhere on porches outside inside lol.
