Post Engine apart question

I'm going to be taking the topend of my engine apart (intake man., heads, camshaft/lifters/pushrods). My question is how do you take the head gaskets off without getting crap in the cylinders and everywhere else. If i have to, what is the best way to clean it up?

What I do is scrap the main parts of the old gaskets off and use my wire wheel to surface the block and heads to get rid of any stuck gasket stuff. Then I use an old shop vac. and suck up all the gasket material that flew everywhere. You know in the cylinder walls and what not. Then I use a rag and wipe everything clean.

What pro88 said. Never had a problem.

Also you could make sure cyl. you are working on is at tdc.
