Post The absolute BEST heads for a 347 stroker?

I've been going back and forth on what to build but now Im almost committed to building a 347. I am considering the C.H.P. kit. I was thinking about Canfields but the kit says that they wont work. Maybe Brodix Neals? Do I have to port them too? Anyone know for sure?

Yeah you could go with some of these more exotic heads. But if it was me, I would get a set of AFR 185's or some TFS R heads, or the TFS Street heats and port them a little.

Yeah those heads sure seem to work for you Sky. I intend on getting the TFSR track heat intake anyway, so TFSR heads would probably be best. But would I have to port them anyway? I realy dont want to but if its needed I will. Maybe I will get the heads and intake extrude honed. I want at least 400hp at the wheels. Any input is welcome. I meant to post this in Windsor Power forum, but Im sure it will do just as well here.

The TFS R's will work nicely or the high-port Street Heats. I've heard that the AFR's are good, but really don't know much about the design or application.

Really any quality head that you go with should have a good 3 angle valve job and maybe a little clean-up work done just to smooth everything out. You don't have to do full bore "porting", just clean up and a valve seating.

Good luck with the 347 - should be one nasty motor!!!

Thumbs up

I just got my Canfields on and running 3 weeks ago. I bought them from Panhandle Performance with a stage 2 port Job.
They said that Canfields would be the best without a doubt because of the low lift flow #'s. I have the eagle stroker kit and the heads went on with plenty of valve clearance and I have a cam with 6.60 lift and 252 duration at .50
Don't take my word for it though. I would call a good shop like Panhandle, Fox lake, Bennett racing, etc... Tell them what you want, and what you have, so they can set you up good.

The R heads unported should work great. I think on a 351 I saw that the R heads made 35hp more than the Street heats, so they should be well worth it.

Hey WADS, how much did your kit cost? I was considering the CHP kit for $1299.00 with the forged pistons. They offer a hyper piston kit too for $999.00 For some reason they say that Canfields wont work on their kit. I dont see why they wouldnt, do you know? How much did your heads cost total with the porting? I intend to squeeze this ***** too so Im goin forged for sure.

The eagle kit is 1300. If you want the forged crank it's another 500. It comes with JE forged pistons and Eagle H-beam rods. The only reason that I could think of why the Canfields would not work is because of the valves. Nothing from my Windsor Jr's worked on the Canfields. The valve angle is different, my stud girdle would not work, my pushrods were to short, and I am having trouble with the intake matching the ports on the heads. I don't know what CHP pistons are like but the JE's have huge valve reliefs. I would buy the eagle stroker kit over any other.
I almost forgot, It uses NO oil so don't listen to all the bad stories about 347's

Yeah Sky, Im sick of ****in around here. I want some serious power and my short block just hit 80k. Im not stupid enough to seriously modify my current block and expect it to last. So ****it here comes the stroker! Might take me a while but Im taking my time cuz I realy dont want to have any probs when Im done. Thanks for the info wads, Im probably going to get the TFSR heads since the Canfields seem like so much ******* work. I'll have them and the intake extrude honed.

The TFSR are good heads. A guy I know is running a 347 w/ TFS R heads with a NOVI 2000 and a crazy custom intake. It just made 680rwhp with 17psi of boost, and the motor isnt broken in or tuned at all yet.
Its going to max at 32psi with a NOVI 3000, and he is looking vor 1100+ RWHP.

I apologize for doing this so late, but I'm gonna move this topic to the Windsor Power Forum. You'll prolly get a lot more responses in there.

Yeah 1100HP is quite a bit...getting it to the pavement is the tricky part.
