![]() Dan,
I have discovered that your Java Chat Application cannot/will not run through my proxy at work. Your applet is one of many I canot run due to a Security Violation. For security reasons, Java programers verify the IP address of the machines that connect to it. Therefore those of us behind a proxy or firewall will not be able to run the applet. Here is the error I received: Load IRC class failed.com.ms.security.SecurityExceptionEx[Connection.<init>]: I was wondering if there was anything you could do about this (not knowing if you programmed it yourself. Thanks, Scott [This message has been edited by Rebel79 (edited 09-20-1999).] |

![]() Yes, it is common to be stuck behind a firewall when you're at a company, and unfortunately, there isn't anything I can do for you there. FIREWALLS JUST PLAIN SUCK. But, a necessary evil. You can also access our chat area using mIRC. This is a window chat client, and free for download on the web. Try http://www.download.com .
We use a dedicated, private IRC server as the back end to the chat applet. So, just set this window IRC program to "mustangworks.com" as the server, and leave it on the default port of 6667. Unfortunately, you may still find it doesn't work because your company's firewall probably does let packets through on the IRC port. ------------------ Dan McClain, Editor The Mustang Works Online 1991 Mustang GT - 10.90 @ 122 Mph Built, Blown, and Fast as Hell! |

![]() Thanks Dan. I have heard of mIRC, but did not think to give it a try. I doubt the proxy will let the IRC packets through since I can even get on a UseNET or anyother Newsgroup. Unless, mIRC has a proxy configuration setting that allows me to use an HTTP proxy.
