Three fouled plugs three fouled plugs see how they don't run!
I'm driving home last night about 65 had the radio up. The car starts missing BAD. I stop and see what I can see. Everything looks fine, but the A/F ratio on the driver’s side is not reading until I gas it (little tap). Then it spikes to rich and down to nothing. The pass side looked a little rich for driving.
I just put this gauge in and have about 40 miles on it. I pulled the spark plugs and three were fouled (4,7,8). I pulled the upper intake to check the rockers and the intake had oil around the ports for these cylinders. I think this has to be the problem, but how do I stop it? The intake was tight and the gasket newer. I have removed the intake a couple of times to adjust the RR. Can I use a little gasket sealer on this or do I have to buy a new gasket every time I remove the upper intake? And this did not happen over a couple of days it was like a switch boom missing. Thanks for the help again

7 and 8 look smell like gas, but 4 had oil around the threads and smells like gas. I'm not real sure what is the best way to tell? 7 and 8 look like carbon. All of the other plugs looked good.

Where you blowing any smoke at all? If any, check compression on #4.
That oil residue is normal. That is part of why the throttle bodies are coated on the inside. |

Yes it does smoke a little very little, but it is out the other side.

The reason I asked if it was smoking is because if you noticed the car "missing" on the e-way at 65 then it was probably something different.
The oil on the thread of #4 is certainly a spill or a valve cover gasket. Unless the entire plug was covered. You probably take care of your ride, but the big deal with the oil up top has always been a dirty pcv. And almost everyone that ends up with a problem never drained the front sump in the oil pan regularly. Is your pcv cool? |

The motor has about 1300 miles on the upper end and the oil pump was replaced in the short. The short block has right @100,xxx. The cylinders looked great when the motor was tore down. I did notice oil on the threads the covers are not leaking.
I did a compression check 4 was a little low ,the reset were fine. Here is the kicker 0 on 8. If I had a blown ring this thing would smoke like a mother right? Could this be a vavle seal problem, I did not upgrade the seals on the new windsor heads(heard they were bad).

DUDE! YOU HAVE 0 COMPRESSION ON CYLINDER 8?!?! IS THAT WHAT YOU WERE SAYING? OMG.......YOU MIGHT WANT TO DO ANOTHER COMPRESION TEST ON THAT CYLINDER JUST TO MAKE SURE ...IF IT'S 0, THAT'S BAD NEWS.

Bad valve seals is usually burning oil. Even if they are bad, that doesn't fix the zero compression on #8. That is something much worse.
You can use a vacuum gauge to check that your valves are closing properly, but you should probably pull the head off and look at #8 piston. Does your pcv take off of the #8 runner on the upper? Look at the piston and let me know dude. I am really curious because I had to put a new bullet in a 93 because of a smoked #8 piston. The only reason I could come to was the drain hole in the pcv baffle in the valve cover was plugged which fouled the entire. That has a direct effect then on what goes into #8 which burned it (leaned out). Let me know. |

if it smells like gas, either it isnt firing, or it's getting to much... find someone with a code reader... might be an 02 going bad...or something cutting ignition to those cylinders... you might pull all the plugs to see if they are running rich... might even be some leaky injectors...
