Default Which head gaskets do you suggest?

Just bought a set of Performer RPM 6025's ported to a 1250 gasket, a cam, the Holley upper and lower intake, 24#ers, ARP head bolts. I have to get a few more things before everything gets installed, and I was just wondering what head gaskets you suggest for my 306?

On Edelbrock 6037's they suggested Fel Pro 1011-1. 4 years with a blower and no problems.

Sorry to disagree about the Felpro 1011 gaskets. My friends and I blew them a lot. The counterman at Hawaii Racing told me "yeah, they blow all the time." He was right.

I upgraded to Mr. Gasket "Solicor" head gaskets, which I'll recommend to any one. I've detonated the s**t out of them. I just had my heads off this week, and the gaskets couldn't be better. The area around the fire ring is nice and shiny, which means no combustion leakage. This was after serious amounts of detonation, including a time when the T-rex pump failed and the motor leaned out.

A set costs about 70 bones from Hawaii Racing, but I believe you won't be disappointed.

Don't forget to check P/V clearance...I believe those are 2.02 heads, right?

Yes they are the 2.02's. As far as p/v clearance, I know that it's suggested to check before installing, but I also bought the motor these heads came off of (needs a rebuild) and it was a stock bottom end. I've got the Speedpro powerforged pistons that are flycut deeper than stock, and since he didn't have a problem, wouldn't this mean that I should be in the clear? I'll be using all the same components that were working with it before (cam, lifters, pushrods, RR's, etc.)

This may be a dumb question, but this is my first bored over engine. I've done many motor and head swaps on various cars, but this is the first head swap on a motor that's .030 over stock. My question is, when I order the head gaskets, do I need to specify that it's bored over? Will the stock size gaskets be a little to small in diameter?

Just wanted to let you know I got the CD yesterday..thanks, The EGR tube left today so you should see it soon

As far as the gaskets go, I used the Fel-Pro's 1011-1 with no issues and some of my buddies run them with boost and juice as well. I have heard good things about the Mr.Gaskets though. Always double check the PTV clearance..better to be safe then sorry.

I run the ROL gaskets, they are .051 thick and are graphite. I have not had a single problem with them and if you need a little more PTV clearance the thicker gasket will help, most of the other gaskets are .039. I am most likey going to swicth to a .025 SCE Copper gasket to bump the compression up, I have plenty of clearance. I bought the ROLS off of wrenchhead.com for $21/each, very good deal for them.

I believe the head gaskets come in .030 sizes, just check with the local parts store. I have never really thought about that?

I have one more question. When checking the p/v clearance using modeling clay, I'm gonna need a set of calipers to check the depth of the lowest part of the clay. Where can I find these at? auto parts store? hardware store?

You don't have to spend the money for calipers unles you want to. Instead, you can spend $5 for a "machinists scale" which is basically a ruler with calibrations in tenths of an inch. If the clearance is tighter than 0.100, then you could buy the caliper to check. Just tryin to help you save some $.
