![]() Okay, I've searched for past discussions on which gears to buy for AOD and the effects on gas mileage. However, I would like to hear from those of you who have an AOD and are running 3:73 or 3:55's. This is for my daily ride and I drive 48 miles round trip to work on the freeway. Want the performance boast but not at the total cost of mpg. Please share your experience with me. By the way, my current gears are 2:73. Thanks!

![]() Well, I just bought 4.10 gears for my stang but I don't use it as a daily driver so I see where your coming from. IMHO I've heard of mustangs getting decent gas mileage but usually it's because of having the 2.73's and nothing larger. If I drove that distance to work every day in my stang, I definitely would stay with 2.73's but thats me. You know even 3.55s will still hurt the gas bill pretty good so hope you have lots of gas money, you will need it for sure if you change. Anyways, good luck.
James

![]() I know this isn't the same, but I got 23 mpg with 3:55's in my 5-speed.

![]() I agree with 1BAD89 on this one. I picked up 2 mpg switching from 2.73 to 3.73. I've personally never seen anyone loose more than a couple mpg, unless they went with a 4.30 or 4.56. You want be disappointed with a 3.73.

![]() I hear Honda's get real good gas mileage.
![]() What size tire diameter do you have? You should calculate what your rpm would be at 70mph with 3.55 3.73 and 4.10 gears and then decide for yourself what you think would be best.

![]() 3.55 or 3.73. You need to think about your future upgrades. If your going to run a blower 3.55 is the highest I would go!!! 3.73 is safe for just average bolt on power.

![]() For an automatic you want either 3.73's or 4.10's just ask the guys at Summit Racing...they'll tell ya. They have it posted at www.summitracing.com under the Customer Service tab. Choose FAQ's and look for "Mustang Modifications....Mild to Wild" it should be on page 3.....5 speed transmissions and automatics are different. Hope this helps...
