Question No Gas Mileage...HELP!!!!!!

i know, im just full of questions today.
when i bought my car, it had 4 cyl. guages in it, and it still does. i didnt think anything of it, i just bought a monster tach and that was that. but now that i think about it, i only get about 100 miles to the tank according to my fuel guage/odometer. so what im wondering is if this car was a prior 4 banger would it maybe have a smaller gas tank?? or if it was an original 5.0 and someone just put 4 cyl. guages in it, would the gas guage read differently, maybe not understand the sending unit or something????? i know even the biggest piece of crap stang should get more than 100 miles to the tank......

So...does it have a 4-banger or a 5.0L in it now? I'm confused, sorry.

I'd check for obvious stuff like vacuum leaks, misfiring cylinders, bad ignition system parts (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.), that kind of stuff first. Is your check engine light on? How about the EGO sensor? Read your plugs and tell us what you see. As a check, fill your tank completely and see what the gauge reads. 4-banger and 5.0L gauges aren't different to my knowledge though. Good luck.

It probably has the wrong speedometer gear in it causing the odometer to give and inaccurate reading. Are you only going about 100 miles or does seem like more? What gear does it have in it? It should get much better than that. Is is a fuel injection motor or a carbed motor?

Might be as simple as a bad sending unit.I believe the sending units are the same ( 4cyl - 8cyl). A lot of times the litle wire coil in the s/u will break and give wonky readings. One way to tell for sure is to run it out of fuel( carry a spare gallon ) or drop the tank when it says it is empty to see if it really is.
