Default RHC/members-Why Import Motorcycles? ??

O.K...Honesty question...How many RHC members or people who bash ricer cars own/owned/recommended a Yamaha, Kawi., Honda or Suzuki motorcycle?

I was just curious.

I have owned a few. I also owned a Harley I built. None of them were riced out, though. Before you make any judgements about the RHC, go to the website, and see what it's about. Read the Ricer's Kill Story, and check out the Picture Page. I think you'll get a better feel for what we're about.

Take care,
~Chris

i can't answer for anyone but me, but mostly it all about the cash.

in any new sport, ya kind of have to start small an hone yer skill before playin with the big dogs. my first car was a 5.0 crown vic, big, like drivin a damn couch, but i learned a lot about the 5.0 engine, how to handle, an manuver 200 horses of detroit steel safetly an reliably.an i transfered that to my mustang, an i respect it, know my own skills as a driver an know what i'm capable of doing with a v8 musclecar.

NOw personally, i love v twins- Sound, design, power, image- i'm an ol skool rocker that likes raisin hell on slick piece of chromed out ground pounding West Coast Chopper or chopers inc custom. but do to the exclusivity of these beautiful machines, the price is obscene- $75-100k for a sweet kustom..even a base HArley you could buy for the price of a new mustang. and for novice riders(younger or new) to perfect cycle riding skills, an become a safe rider, theses are better to learn on or drop than a $30,000 harley, and can usually take abuse a lot better being made of mostly plastic an fiberglass... plus their relativly cheap an will waste just about anything on the road.

its all about progression IMO, speed aint everything w/ me as an artist i love a kik *** design. an i love a clean piece of thundering metal shakin windows as it storms down the road , but as aspiring rider, i plan to get a beater to learn the ropes before gettin a boss hog. it jus makes sense IMO

the term riceburner's did start out with the harley & brit bike crowd, i owened a harley, but. i rode with anyone , most people can hardley buy an h-d anymore , but i wasnt snobbish about it, so now car owners have taken up the ricer banner, but it includes domestic rice also, a whole new meaning.

I just had this discussion with someone this evening. I have a honda VFR800, I researched it after someone here suggested it. I need to look back at who suggested it and thank them.. I love the bike. Its a great midground bike. I will one day own a Harley low-rider but when I went to bike week in Myrtle Beach, I was considered a ricer(BIG TIME). I love the USA and I try to buy American made whenever I can but we just don't build a bike like this here. We have the Buell but its no where near the performance of the jap bikes. Try low 13s, thats the best 'we' can do. Thats a revised 1200 sportster engine. I'd much rather buy an american sports bike but I just have to go with the performance and value, in this situation. Believe me, if the USA offered it, I'd be riding it.

P.S. Pics of the low-ridwer will be up as soon as I buy one(hmmm.. 2003 would be a great year to buy one.. 100yr anniversary).

You don't think the V-Rod would beat your bike?

Take care,

P.S. Tell them why I laughed, Rick.

Umm.. I have a red valve stem cover light(is that what you are referring to?) on my bike. I saw it in wlamart and thought it was a good idea to have one on my bike so that no one would run in the side of me at night. I bet those suckers would really light my weld drag lights up

Take a look at my signature. Bikes are an entirely different world. The Honda VFR is a marvel of engineering, geared cam, single sided rear swingarm etc. The bike will do 60 in 3.1 seconds, and is comfortable enough to ride all day.

Ever see a scrawny, backwards visor wearing, pants around the ankles kid try to ride one of these? Probably not, as he would kill himself in about 30 seconds.

Rice is about an attitude, and can most easily be condensed to the misconception that you are fast when you are not. This can be exaggerated by graphics or bodykits that do more harm than good, but the first part is the base of it. The fastest bike in the World is a Suzuki, and all three other Jap makes are not far behind.

And that is just street. On the dirt, there isn't a domestic bike I can think of even being made anymore, and the Euro bikes are weird and expensive.

My next street bike will be a Harley (or Indian). Simply put, I'm getting too old to go dragging my knee all over the road. So I'll settle down for the double potato sound and cruise for a while. If I want real speed with one, I'll have to strap on a NOS kit, and yes they do make them for bikes.

Hope that clears it up.

Default Thanks..

Thaks Guys. That's what I thought. I've owned and rode a Kawasaki EX 500 and my EX had a Suzuki Katana 600. We found no real domestic competition in the bike area. We found the Suzuki required valve adjustments too often and then had the little man so we got rid of the bikes for responsible family mobiles.

I just wanted to make sure we could all see this from the same frame of mind. I was laughing because my EXs Kat was black, mint-green and periwinkle. looked like a ricer bike if ever there was one. Mine was a simple black-n-red. Then I got thrown down on Hwy 49 outside of Auburn CA on a 5mph taken at about 20 (I was a passenger on this ride). Ate asphalt until I looked up at the front grill of a Toyota Pick-up. After a "Greg Louganis" dive off the back pegs, I decided...Umm probably not again. Speed wrapped in 26 gauge sheet metal is more my style now.

Thanks again and you all have a great day! Off to keep the "big wigs" happy at work..

~Jane~

Rice is a frame of mind...not a reference to a vehicles origin.

Default Inferno?

Inferno? You must have came in for the RHC part? Umm, you have a nice Supra then huh? O.K. I agree rice is the frame of mind (of perceived speed). Plain out it's a bunch of goddy crap placed on a car that makes it functionally F-ed up, where you can't even pull over a speed bump normal.

I will stick my neck out for the benefit of import owners to say once and for all they are engineered totally different than a 'Stang. Top end RPM and power VS low end RPM and power. I have said before on this board that MOST vehicles can be modified to fit your specific application. I have seen 'Stangs pull line and then about 1/2 way get blown by an import with all upper RPM power. In the end it's all engineering friend. My domestic vs your import is not even a topic. Moot point. Move on.

I do not cut import drivers, because I myself owned a sweet 1.8L 16V Dual-OH Cam GTS Toyota. I loved it. All upper RPM and thunder, even smoked a few 'LX Stangs in my day. It was too costly to keep up. Now it's easier to walk into Pep Boys and buy a part for an import product than a domestic. In the end actually all these "domestic cars" we drive contain a good amount of import parts. I would like to find a car that is not from the 50s or 60s eras that are today "BUILT" american, using american parts.

Do you own a cycle Inferno? Or where you just bustin' in to put in your two cents re: rice?

Jane,
Not only is Inferno one of the more tenured members on the site, he is also one of the most knowledgeable. I'm not sure why you jumped on him as you did, unless you are afraid his supra will beat your Mustang.

I didn't once see him mention anything about rpms or engineering, just a simple statement that everyone in the RHC will agree to. Simply put, he ain't rice.

Mike-
Easy there bud. Jane wasn't jumping on Inferno. She stated some pretty honest opinions, that had nothing to do with Inferno. In fact, I'm thinking about borrowing the line about rice being a bunch of crap on the car that keeps it from going over speed bumps. LOL. That's pretty damn good.

Anyway, then she asked him if he rode, which is why she started this thread; to see how many folks in here ride jap bikes (in short).

I didn't read any of her reply as jumping on Inferno, Mike, and I really doubt that she meant to.

Take care,
ÅChris
