Exclamation ok terrific..am i sitting on a bomb now?

lets see for starters..i dont know how to put this..well basically i blew my rear doing powerbrakes..didnt strip the gears, didnt break an axel, i literally ripped my pumpkin in 1/2, and my passenger side axel tube ripped out!!!!!!!!

ok now for the question..i put in a '90 7.5 rear out of a 4banger AOD convert..it seams to have 3.73's in it..how strong is this thing???does it have anykind of posi in it or is it a open diff???i mean this is the rear that the 5.0's used till '85 aint it??basically do i have to baby this thing or will it handle the measle power that i have

Start looking for an 8.8. . .I tried to use the same logic last year and wound up breaking 2 7.5" rearends. (I had a couple of them laying around is why I went through two)
They just won't hold up.

The 4 bangers had to have the extra gear to physically move, but they don't have traction-lok. I have a 7.5" in my stang and it's coming out ASAP, don't waste your time with the 7.5" i've heard of people destroying those rearends with stock engines, but i've yet to hear of some one break an 8.8" without SEVERE abuse with slicks and clutch dumping.

wow! What a great chance to install a 9" and never have a rear diff. problem again. They are cheap at wrecking yards, unlimited supply of parts, and pretty much bulletproof. You may have to narrow it slightly if you can't find one from a '57. If you can find one from a lincoln versailles they have disc brakes as a bonus. Good luck!

Change to the 8.8. I have a basically stock 84 GT it had the 7.5 in it. The rearend didn't stand up long after I dropped the gears to 3.73.( A week to the day!!!) I now have a 8.8 with 4.10, but i havnt got to go to the track yet. Maybe next week!!
