First two things i would check is that 1. the fuel pump is coming on and you are getting fuel to the engine, and 2. you are getting spark from the coil to the plugs

Make sure the battery cables are clean and tight. Make sure the cables are good, and haven't been ruined by battery acid (creates a white fluff). Make sure the solenoid is well grounded.

If it still doesn't work, use two screwdrivers, and jump the two large posts on the solenoid. Make sure the car is in neutral first. Does this make the engine crank over?

sounds like its a prob with the line going to the starter. Clicking noises suggests that powers hittin it but not kicking the starter. Try a voltage test on this power lead to see if its infact getting enough juice.

I had the same problem with an 86 GT I had. I replaced alot of expensive stuff only to find out the battery ground cable had rotted and corroded on the inside of the wire insulator where you couldnt even see it. Take a jumper cable and hook it to the negative battery post then to a good ground somewhere on the engine. A friend came over and did this to mine and it started right up.

That's pretty much what I was saying. I've seen it happen a lot. Especially when someone cracks the post seal on their battery, and the acid starts to eat at the cable. People think that wiping the white fluff off is all they need to do, but in fact the battery and the cable must be replaced. Just a little FYI.

Take care,
~Chris

The starter is either not getting enough power due to low voltage OR it is not grounded well. Personally I'd check to see if the soleniod worked like was previously suggested, if so I'd put my money on a ground problem.

Do you have an alarm? If so, try bypassing the kill switch. There are 2 wires that go from the alarm unit under the dash to the the ignition switch. The wire on the ignition switch that originally went to the starter has to be cut to utilize the kill switch. One wire from the alarm goes to the half of the wire on the ignition switch and the other to the half of the wire that goes to the starter. On mine the wire was a tan color. Strip off a little of the jacket of each wire and loop them together . I would suggest using a jumper wire with aligator clips on each end. If it cranks with no problems, just splice the original ignition wire back together to perminatly bypass the kill switch. It is alot less work than it sounds. I did it in the pits at the track with a pocket knife and some electrical tape. If that is not it, I do not know what to tell you. I hope to hear you got it up and going soon.
