Question Police Package

Are the Police Mustangs different in any way from a regualar lx or gt? Other the the trunk instead of the hatchback.

They had better cooling and charging systems. I think they had better bushings in control arms. The motor should be the same.

I think they also had a bigger front sway bar and a reinforced floor pan.

Or at least mine did.

The fan clutch and charging system.
The reinforced floor pan could've been a repair job

There does not seem to be anything wrong with the stock floor but the car was owned by someone else before me so I don't know if he did it or not.
Anyway I did not even know it was there until the guy that did my roll cage said something to me about it.

blue silicone radiator hoses
reinforced floor pan
different fan clutch
heavy duty alternator
one key opens all locks/trunk and starts the car
heavy duty upper control arms
engine oil cooler
courtesy light on the driver's side disabled
no beeping because the keys are in the ignition or the lights are on
trunk release button on the drivers side instead of in the glove compartment
160mph certified and calibrated speedometer
I think there is some kind of restrictor in the heater hose...I'm not sure if this comes with the regular stangs or not.
...and no hood liner.

I think the automatics came with a tranny cooler too.

I'm pretty sure the brakes are the same.

Where did your car come from? Mine was a Florida Highway Patrol car.

That's not mine, I found the picture on the net. ; )

Mine was a California Highway patrol. Wish I had a pic of it. It looks pretty sweet. It's got a Cobra R hood with 5 Star ponies.

heh...I love the look on people's face when I tell them it was a cop car.

I also love hearing people talk about all the "police" stuff that my car has...I've heard it all...special chips..special suspension...I had one guy ask if they took some kind of bar out of the trunk that let's you slide around corners.

I found a few pictures of CHP on the net..

And here's a really cool interior shot...

I think mine must have had a shotgun in it too...Right where that gun is there is a little black spot on my glove compartment where something vibrated for a long time..Maybe that or a little computer like in the pic.

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! i cant believe my car was once that ugly!
as for the differences, it depends on the year of the car and where it is from, my car has everything listed by chadtn2 except for the blue hoses, and i dont think it had stronger upper control arms, also my speedo is a 140mph, another way to tell if it is or not is it will say certified calibration below the speedometer, and yes the automatics came with a tranny cooler

Yep, lol i heard it all, "does it have the chip? "does it have the 351 interceptor"?, i just laugh. But the above info is mostly correct, oil cooler, something on the heater core to make it more durable, the fan clutch i had is really just a cobra fan clutch)it (sucked), manual trunk pop button by the steering whl, and 160 certified calibrated speedo (90 up mdls), i have posted a pic of mine before, it is hard to tell from the outside, except one little cap where there was an antenna.

hooking up a stereo i found all kinds of stray wires from all the radios it had, i never knew about any suspension mods, except the reinforced floorpans, i do know at 175k miles, my car runs like a striped a$$ ape

Oh and im not sure about my alternator, but it seems to charge decent, but i only have a steeda water pump pulley, and my car does have a chip in it now, but isnt worth a darn.

I know it has a bigger alternator than stock; mine has a 140 amp on it with an external regulator.

What size is the oil filter on it. I know it is shorter but what is the part #. Doesn't matter what brand. Thanks. Are they lighter the regulars lx's and gt's?

it uses a shorter oil filter because of the oil cooler spacer thing on there that the colant lines run through, if you try to use a FL1A then the filter will hit your sway bar, before i took my swaybar off i used a purolator P10017 (i think), look in the book at the parts store and some will have listings for police mustangs too, about the weight, they are probably a little heavier because of the reinforced floorpan and all the damn wiring and such

Your car should take a FL300 Motorcraft Oil Filter. They are the best. My car was a Undercover Intercetor and Its Blue, with tan a black interior. They must have done more stuff to my engine when I got the car because I got to much torque and power for that car.

yes fl300 filter, man i tried the fl1a when i first got my car, that sob started pouring oil after a couple turns, almost blew my motor, pulling the swaybar off was the best thing i ever done . i think My car must of been somewhat undercover also, i have black and red interior, when i got it it even smelt like a cop car

I remember the first time I tried to buy an oil filter for my car...I went back and checked the book twice...Couldn't get that darn thing on for anything. I went to three different parts stores, but couldn't find a motorcraft filter to fit it. I ended up using a Fram...Or something like that. One day I was at Wal-mart and checked the book. They had it listed and on the shelf. Go figure. ; )

The cops did install some gears on my car though. The door code said 3.08...But running my rpms/speed through the calculator on the corral I came up with 3.27's.

yes if you pull the swaybar off you can use the regular FL1A filter, thats what is on mine now, you will tell a BIG difference in handling when you pull it off, it will handle like an 82 cadillac with 10psi in the tires, just kidding, its not that bad but its definately noticable, if your just into goin straight its really worth it, but some people think its too loose, try it and if you dont like it put it back on
