Default Alternator...paint it or not....?

Hey, I just got a used 3G alternator off of a 95 GT and it looks really nasty. I was thinking about sanding it down, priming it and painting it silver to match my march alternator bracket. My question is: Would I do any damage to it by any chance by painting it?

I've managed to wash, sand, polish and paint every piece of external engine hardware from the alternator to the distributor cap and the clutch fan and I have yet to have any problems as a result of the paint.

Have fun!

For silver, try the duplicolor chrome spraypaint: comes out almost mirrored. You'll have to clearcoat over it as it "smudges" if you try to polish it. I painted an entire 79 fiat spider mirrored once. Was great: I could blind people around me on a sunny day
