![]() ok only thing left. cam!!!! i have ben pondering this question for a long time. what cam to get.
what i have 289 bock 30 over Holley 3190 4bbl 650cfm carb edelbrock performer 289 intake 302 ported heads (unknown years) Hooker super comp headers with 2 1\2 flowmaster exhaust. bolted to a beefed up c4 with 3.55's engine runs very well i was thinking of rejetting the carb but didnt want to do that untill cam. what cam should i get i have a 1500 or 2200 stall. my tach is crummy so not sure. motor pulls to 4000 then drops. i drive in the 2500-4000 range usually. if i can get a cam past 4000 for that 90 plus freeway driving cool but if not i love that zero-sixty...:0) any ideas what i should get. somewhat conserned about vavle to piston clearnace. also im told to replace the timing chain when you do a cam swap from stock. why is this needed and what is a durable chain? or should i go gears?? any ideas? thanks..

![]() The timing chain should be replaced simply because it wears out. Might as well do it when you swap the cam since you're in there already. Same goes for lifters. A dual roller chain is the way to go; less stretching problems than a single row chain. I wouldn't install gears if I was you. They are noisy, expensive and are not that important unless you're planning to run at high rev's all the time.
