![]() My combo is:
I'm replacing my stock engine in my '88 GT for a crate engine. The new engine has the following combo: GT40X alum. heads, 1.6 RR, GT40 intake, 70 MM TB (mass air)and 24# injectors. My question is: Can I use my stock valve covers? If so, do I have to remove the oil baffle? If not, which valve covers will work? Thanks, everyone. |

![]() I believe with the 1.6 rockers you will NOT need to grind on the baffle, the coers will bolt right up to the GT-40X heads with no problems. If you want to get new vlave covers, the new Ford Racing Covers (Tall-they will require the use of a phenolic spacer) look great, my Comp Polymers work great as well and are a cheaper alternative.

![]() I have the GT-40 and I am using the stock valve covers with 1.6 roller rockers and I had to remove the baffle and do a bunch of grinding to make them work. I'm not sure if it makes any difference using the X heads as I am still using the stockers, but I don't see why that would make a difference unless the surface the covers sit on is higher than it is on the ET7E heads.
Save yourself the trouble and order a set of Ford Racing covers and a 1" phenolic spacer. It will look a lot nicer and involve a lot less work. Or wait until you get the engine and test fit your stockers to see if they will work. ------------------ Too much to list.
