Which springs to get rid of 4x4 look
I went to my local Powerd By Ford shop here in Orlando and they convinced me to go w/ the G springs because I have a conv.
They're up there in price though; $230. Should I bother with springs made especially for a conv.? Or not? I know my car is heavier than hardtops and I want the same look that that the hardtops get when they are lowered. PBF said that if I put anything other than the G springs on my car it will SLAM it and ride quality will go to poop Also, anyone ever heard of Granetelli Motorsport springs? Any good? Anyone running progressive rates on their conv.? Which C/C plates should I go with? Thanks in advance! ------------------ Green '94 GT conv. -- K&N filter charger, FMS 9mm wires, Accel hipo cap/rotor, 180* thermo, 14* timing, PRO 5.0 w/ stock handle, off road H-pipe in front of 2 chamber flow's, Steeda subframe connectors w/ crossbrace, stock, stock, stock, yeah and that's stock too. Anytime you move to a lowering spring you're going to lose some of the ride quality. It also depends on the shocks you select... some are smoother than others.
I'm running Eibach springs and the front dropped perfectly. The rear still sits a little high, but I have a coupe and there isn't much weight over the rear (I also have 2 10-inch subs in a box in the trunk). I'm a big fan of Eibachs and I suspect they would work perfectly on a convertible. The Eibachs really don't plant the car in the weeds. Just make sure you're tires aren't too tall (that's with any set of springs). ------------------ Eric - 89 Mustang LX coupe 302 - Cobra Intake - GT40p heads - TFS stage 1 cam - FRPP 1.6 roller rockers - Naturally Aspirated 3.73 gears - KYB shocks and struts - Eibach springs - HPM Mega-bite Jr lower control arms - HPM upper control arms |

Do you guys think it would be ok to go with the Eibach Pro-Kit made for the coupes or the one for the conv.? I've heard the conv. one doesn't have that much of a drop and I'd have to cut the springs. The coupes are lower springs rate so the rear would sit lower to the ground with out cutting the springs.

I wasn't aware there were different springs for convertibles and coupes (it makes sense considering the weight differences). I would go with the springs designed for the convertible. Eibach makes a qaulity product and I would be surprised if were disappointed with the ride height after it was all said and done. Keep in mind the springs actually have a break in period and the car will settle a little lower after a few thousand miles.
I'd recommend against cutting the springs, it's dangerous. I was reading through my Eibach warranty and they recommend against it as well (it actually voids their warranty). |
