Unhappy Big scare tonight..

I let my cockateil out today, let her fly around a bit. Later, I let my dogs in and forgot the bird was out. The dogs followed me and I gave them some attention and later I hear some noise from the other room. I jump up and go to check it out and my dachshund has my bird in his mouth on the floor. I hit the roof! The dog runs off and the bird is laying there, raising hell, and spotting blood on the floor! The bird is bleeding, I pick it up and it bleeds in my hands I just know this bird is gonna die. I take it to an emergency vet. The bird is going to live, I think. I didn't know a bird could bleed that much and live. Lucky dog... thats all I got to say. I never wanted the bird, I actually wished it would die soon when I first got it but now I've had it for over 10yr. I'd miss it at this point. Lucky dog, is all I gotta say, I would have had to either give him away or dig a hole.

I let the dogs in when I got back from the vet, the other dog went over and started licking up the blood off the floor.

Simular experience.

I had this Fancy Parakeet. Cost me $2.50. Anyway I let fly around all the time. This crazy-azz bird thought it was a Golden Eagle or sumtin. He would swoop down and massage my Shitsu's head. LOL. The dog would go absolutley NUTZ!

Well I come home one day and I find a wing lying on the carpet, no sign of Sparky anywhere.

Dog seemed kinda happy that day.

LOL! If I hadn't had the bird for so long I it probably wouldn't have bothered me.

I had a bird about 7 years ago and then we got 2 ferrets and they'd always go to the cage stand and he's go down and nip at them. one day i came home from work and my bird was gone and my mom told me they got hold of him and she took him to the vet but they couldn't do anything to save poor koko.

lol

Glad your bird survived RBatson! Kind of amazing when you think about it. I would think a dog would make pretty quick work of a bird once he got a hold of it.

I had a blue and white parakeet.... named zues.. yep good ole zues, i loved the bird, one night i was watching movies and i walked in to check on him at the begining of the movie and he was just sitting there looking at me... and then when i came back he was laying at the bottom of the cage... and there was mouse crap every wheres... the mouse gave him a heart attack fuzzy little fecker... any ways i dug a hole in the ice cold fround and buried the little dude... If i ever find that mouse... his day will come...

Thanks man, she seems to be doing very well at this point. I dropped my dog off at my mom's the next day. I think it was traumatizing the bird when she saw him.
