Wow a great 12.95....NOT
What a disapointment my 1/4 run was. A best of 12.95 @ 114 mph with some 13.40s. What is my problem? I'm running on fairly good tires, (i figure), shifting at 6000. Maybe my car needs a better tune but i just dunno. Fuel pressure is at 40psi and timing is at 16 or 18 i can't remember.
Everything is in my sig and nothing changed. I just figure a 351W should be a bit stronger than that.

Hey...don't get bummed out. I'm in the same boat...my best ET is a 12.51, but my MPH is WAYYYYYYYYYY down @ 104-105. Maybe we can figure out something together...did you play with timing yet??

ok stupid me, I just read your profile, you have decent stuff.. I would have to say something is wrong in your timing, 16 should be decent, i would increase your fuel pressure to maybe 45psi, see what happens then, does it feel like its starving out, or strong all the way? Are your tires gripping and how is your clutch, maybe your clutch is slippin. let me know on this..

My clutch is fine from what i can tell and traction is ok. Not the greatest in first, i have to feather it, but just a slight spin into second and away it goes. it doesn't feel like it gives much up top end, but i have always wondered and asked about the stock valve springs that came on older AFR heads. They say there good for .550" lift and i'm right on that, maybe a tinnie bit over, but i don't have coil bind. I've never measured the spring pressure to see if they are good enough tho.

We have damn near the same setup but I run a C4 and you run the 5 speed. Looks like the 5 speed is better for MPH and the C4 has a more consistent ET...which isn't surprising. No chip? Mine won't hold an idle without a chip. A 12 second street car is not shabby at all.

The car runs great, starts up and idles fine everytime. Well maybe 7 out of 10 times anyways. No chip, just the stock AL9 computer. Although it has developed a bit of a off-ilde stummble lately, i wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I would start with an increase of fuel pressure to 45 maybe higher, the track will tell the tale. Then timing and ignition could use to be looked at. what your tune up like? What plugs are you using? Are you running and MSD box, there known for High end cut off issues.. Mine did that.. took me forever to figure it out.

You've got some minor issues. 114 MPH should be at least a 12.20 or so. That means she's making the ponies, but the et is falling off somewhere. Usually the little end of the track, if you're spinning in second you've got traction problems. Run a little less air pressure, get some pointers on "tuning" your upper control arms, and play with the timing. There's is literally TONS of torque hiding in your distributor! I'd be willing to bet your stocker distributor isn't bringing yout total timing in until about 4500 which is waaaaay late, and it's probably only giving you about 30@ total which also sucks. Timing is a "black art" of sorts, and sometimes pricey but it the long run it pays you back 100%.
Start with the little stuff and work your way up. Maybe get some cold air in that motor too. And by the way, a 12 second street car is NOTHING to sneeze at!!!!

Are you running a stock distributor? If so maybe upgrade to a MSD or something..

Read your spark plugs.
Have you actually checked for coil bind? Get a custom chip or a twEECer.

114mph seems about right. What was your 60ft, I am guessing that it sucked.
A high 11 or low 12 should be easy with 114mph. Were you running slicks?

89fast, you DO NOT have motor issues. TRACTION, 60FT, WHEELIES get it. You must work on these or you will never get a good ET. 114 is 11 sec car.
As much time, effort, and money that you spent on motor, needs to be spent on the CAR. Start with a set of 90/10s.

Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions and input. I'll have to play around with timing, fuel press and see what i can do about the traction.
I made the runs on my McCreary G-60s if any of you are familiar with those ones. The car is a daily driver and it is really fun to drive and hard to beat might i add. A side note that may shed some light on the matter that i just remembered, was that a couple months ago i raced a guy in a old dodge duster out on the hiway and beat on him pretty good. He claimed he went 12.20 on slicks last season and has made no changes. We raced from a stop and i beat him, and raced again from a roll and i beat him again. I even noticed that i pulled away and kept slightly pulling from him the whole time we raced. Its just to me it always seemed like i got pretty good traction, i would like to feel the car on slicks launching at 5500rpm, hahaha

SMOKE THEM DODGES.. Play around with it at the track, I think with a better tire combination you'll get closer to what your looking for.

I need to make that type of power! My car is setup for ET, but I just need to find the power. What are you using for tires?? What pressure you run them at?

Stang_ROTY - I'm using McCreary American Racer G-60 tires. They are actually a Dirt Track tire but have a DOT # so i use them on the street, (not i need DOT tires where i'm from, cheesy cops).
I run them at about 15psi, and they seem to work fairly well, but i guess not good enough for what i want.
