Post Nitrous

Does anyone know if you can apply a nitrous system to a 92 2.3 liter LX? Thanks.

I don't know if it's possible, but I can't imagine why not, sounds like a lot of fun though! I have a couple buddies who have some serious turbo 2.3's. One of them is running mid 10's in a fox bodied coupe.

Yes, it is possible to spray nitrous in a 2.3, but if you ask me, it's a waste of money. To install the system with spray to your intake will cost you from $650 to $800 initally. After that each tank wont last that long, and it takes about $40 to fill each pop. As time rolls by you'll spend thousands of dallars on that junk.

For $2000 you could purchase a votech supercharger and for about $3500 - $4000 you can get a turbocharger which will last you way longer than spray. The only thing you have to do is "maintanance". Expecially, the turbo charger, due to fluid buildup, since it utilizes exhaust fumes.

Furthermore, you will gain a lot more hp and performance.

By the way, nitrous is famous with some Honda 4 bangers. They try to compete with other machines such as mustangs, comaros and such...

Thumbs up

Hey, thanks for the information.
The reason I'm interested in a nitrous kit over a turbo or supercharger is that I do not want to make my LX a serious performance machine. I enjoy it's quiet ride and good gas mileage. I just want something a little extra for when those kids in the camaro pull up next to me. Nitrous is only engaged when you want it to be (right? I think so but I really dont know), the rest of the time the car would be a normal 2.3 Mustang, which is why I bought it.

You're correct, nitrous is only on when you hit the button. It should ideally only be used at wide open throttle, above 2500 rpm or so. A universal EFI kit can be installed on virtually any engine, for about $500. Nitrous refills cost about $3-4 per lb., depending on local prices. You should retard the timing 1 degree for every 25 h.p. of nitrous. Start with the smallest setting, and work upward slowly. Make sure your fuel system and ignition are in good condition.

Thanks for the feedback, but I'm putting my little nitrous project on hold. I'm buying a 1980 Datsun 280ZX to play with. After I buy this car I'll juice the 'Stang (when I save up enough money again). Thanks again.
