Question Hood sound dampener, should it stay or should it go?

I was looking at my engine today and noticed the greasy, oily sound dampener on the underside of the hood. I pulled it off, but as my Pony is in storage until spring, or until the salt is washed off the roads by a steady rain, I can't drive it to see if the sound is bad without it. Anyone have any recomendations as to whether I should keep it or toss it?

I say toss the damn thing, I think they are ugly. But then again, the lack of paint on the underside of the hood is uglier...I'm starting the work on my coupe next Thursday, and I'm edging my new hood in completely so I could put that damn thing in the trash

I removed it cause it started ripping... See, I pulled off the fan shroud bacause of the large Griffin radiator and S-trim pulleys wouldnt clear.
The only concern is the heat of the motor will hasten the dulling of the finish on the topside.
If you are doing it for weight, dont bother. Its like 2 lbs if that.

Mine was ripping so I yanked it. It did make it a little louder. Especially with all that 1.7 noise.

I pulled it because it was ugly, the piece is actually in decent shape. The underside of the hood is a little better, it's painted anyway but there is globs of the goo they put between the sheetmetal sticking out I'll need to trim and repaint to clean it up. I had thought about putting in that silver heat matting that Summit sells, but I don't know if that would look any better than the black fiber thing from the factory. Anybody have any detailing tips on this?
