Post Draining A/C System prior to removal

Not that I would ever actually do it myself...so hypothetically, if I did not want to give $70 to my local mechanic - how would I drain the coolant myself. Honest, I won't do it...I am just curious...

Well I wouldn't do it either but ....all you need to do is let the gas escape out the shrader valve right at the compressor, then undo the fittings and yank all that weight right out. I would wear gloves and use a screw driver or other object to press the fitting the gas could be cold..but I wouldn't know Put tape over the fitting on the compressor and bag it and save it incase you want to put it back on, if mositure gets in the compressors it is shot. Makes the engine bay all nice and clean when it's removed, same with the Power Steering.

I had this friend who was putting a 351W in his convertible who just undid the lines at the compressor. He disconnected the low pressure side first. He is no longer my friend since I am a big environmentalist.

Thanks for the info, I was only asking because my mechanic won't let me in the shop area where he works due to insurance claims, so I only wanted to know what he was really doing...I would never endanger Muddy-the-Mudskipper by releasing harmful refrigerant into the air...
