Default 1990 AOD Shift Points

I have a 1990 5.0 Convt with an AOD. I just bought the car and it is comletely stock. I have owned 5 speed mustangs but never an AOD. My question is as follows when cruising around town, the trans will not kick into 4th "overdrive" unless I am going over 55 miles an hour and I back out of the throttle. It will not shift into overdrive below that point. So if I'm going 50 mph, I'm in third gear and and turning about 2200 rpm with my 273 rear. But if I hit 55 mph and then feather the throttle, it will shift into overdrive. My gas mileage averages about 200 miles per tank. Which I think sucks. Any Ideas how to get it to go into OD earlier? Also, is this a lockup trans? Maybe I'm wrong but lockup means that while cruising at highway speeds, if I tap the gas slightly, the rpms should not increase, it should be like cruising in 5th gear with a man. transmissinn.

Thanks

Sounds like the TV is possibly out of wack. Do any other gears shift late or odd?

Slide your TV forward a little and that should fix your problem
