Default Recommended Tire Size...

I am going to be putting 17 x 8.5's all the way around my car. I called 50resto to see what they said about tire sizes for the front and rear, they said 245 in the rear and 235 in the front but they didnt say what series tire to use. anybody want to voice there opinion?

I want to go a little larger in the rear(255, 60 series tire) and I want to go with a big as tire as possible in the front w/o rubbing so the car/tire combo doesnt look stupid. Would a 235 40 series tire work? or would i have to go 35 or 30?

Thanks in Advance!

Later...
Rob

Is the car lowered? What back spacing?

You usually do a 245/45/17 up front and 275/40/17 out back if you've got 5.9 to 6.1 inch back spacing.

My car isnt lowered. I haven't got the rims yet so I dont know the backspacing, When I called 50resto about them they did not know the backspacing on the wheels.
My original tire sizes are 225/60R15 in the rear and 215/60R15 up front.

Heres the wheels I will be getting, In Black and Im going to have the centercaps powdercoated black.

Use this as a guide ONLY. ***Go to the tire shop and have a test fit with the rims.*** The backspace is critical. Esp with the front.

(((((((((((((((The fronts should be ***AROUND***17X8 with 4.95 backspace. The rear 17X9 with 5.95 backspace. Also I believe they are a 4 on 4 1/4 pattern.)))))))))))

Tire size will vary with different brands of tires. I have some cooper tires that I could have went a size bigger because the lack of sidewall buldge.

But in general the tire size you mention is the right aspect from front to rear.

Yes my car is 4 on 4 1/4 bolt pattern. I have been trying to decide on what wheels to get...

Reproduction 17" 1993 Cobra(URL posted above)
Weld Draglites 15 x 8 out back and 15 x 5 up front
Getting a better set of the stock 10 hole rims, powdercoating them Black
16 x 7 Chrome Ponys
The list goes on and on...

I really want the 17" Cobra's

Id go with the 17 Repo Cobras. 17 inch just offer way more tire options. 15 inch have all but faded away.

You pick up some handling with the 17's and you'll be able to upgrade brakes later if you keep the car.

I called 50Resto today about tire size, and finally talked to someone that could get me an answer about tire size, 245/40R17 up front and 275/40R17 out back...

Now I just gotta choose which tires I want...Any Opinions?
