Default Pulley Problems!!!!!!!!

yo i see you got a fox body..i got an 87 gt that is havin a major pulley problem...i was wonder what the pulley is underneath the alternator....because it just ceased up on me and my buddy seems to think that you can get a shorter belt and cut whatever the pulley is out of the equation....if you can help me that would be greatly appreciated...and i need help fast!

if thats the smog pump, yes you can get rid of it by switching to a shorter belt. I'm pretty sure that it's your water pump though. You can check out this diagram to be sure though.

If you bypass the smog pump the cats will clog up so you better remove them or gut them while you are at it.

the smog pump is an emissions device but it takes power to run it so most people eliminate it assuming you aren't required to keep it remain emmisions legal

where is that located at.I dont know much about v8 engines I had a mitsubishi eclipse and besides the eclipse all I had was civics and integras so am new to the v8 since I trade it my eclipse for a mustang couple of months ago. So any help I will appreciate thank you

If you look at this link it will show you an acessory belt diagram. The smog pump is the one labeled a/p. (air pump)

Thanks for the help I checked my car and the smog pump was remove by its past owner.
