351W Stroker ?
I was wondering where would be the best place to get a stroker kit for a 351W? I was looking at the kits from Keith Craft, because they use Eagle rods and crank, and I've heard good things about these. Are there any places I should avoid? I was also wondering if there is any way to tell what year a block is. I have two and have heard that pre '74 blocks are stronger than post'74 blocks. I believe one is a pre '74 but I'm not sure. Thanks

Coast High makes a pretty good kit, give them a try... as fars as telling what year it is you might need to run the numbers off the block...

Check around on Coast High - have seen a bunch of posts lately about getting screwed there. for the Ford 393 crank check www.oemfordparts.com, their svo section. also for the hypereutectic pistons they use in their stroker crate motor. for good discounts on gen Ford parts, check www.fordpartsnetwork.com, have had good luck with them. For rods, do a search for like Eagle, Scat, crower, etc. Then stick on some TW R or AFR 185 heads and go for it!

PS - check www.cranecams.com for their retrofit hydraulic roller lifters for a non-roller block - lets you use any cam that works in a factory roller block. The Comp cams hydr roller that Ford uses in their crate 393 is a very good piece.

The older blocks are tougher than almost anything made today. I believe it is the larger amount of nickel content in the metal they used pre-75. But remember the trade-off's. 1)They weigh more and 2) a roller cam/lifter kit is needed if you want a roller setup. and the kit is expensive!

vande97 what makes you think indymustang is a good place? i live in indy and have been to their shop, let me tell you one thing, they SUCK!
they use cheap *** parts in their rebuilt motors and their shop looks like a freakin tornado hit it, i've also seen a couple of their sponsored cars (as well as the owner's car) run, either they dont make any power or their staying in 2nd gear all the way down the track stay away from them, there are PLENTY of better places to buy from ------------------ 88 Notch, B&M Ripper, 3.73's, Ported E7's, Explorer int. w/ ported lower, pulleys, 1.7RR's, full exhaust,65mm TB, Nitto DR's, new best 1/4--> 13.42@106.18 (1.89 short time) |

hey fivohpatrol, all I know is that the guy put together a motor for me about a month ago and this thing run,s like a champ! i have a list of all parts that he used in my motor and they are of brand name! Also i think jim(at indy mustang) there really knows his shi* i talked to him a few days ago and was asking him for some advice on what type of head i should go with in the summer, he told me witch ones would work best. He also gave me some info on a couple of motors that he built for a couple racers in Atlanta, 408 strokers, my size motor and one other... they have been trying diffrent intakes and a few diffrent other parts to get the best out of the motor. I think this guy know's his stuff, he is also very helpfull when advice is is needed!,
but hey if you have been there and got screwed by them or something well then i can see how you look down on them. everyone has there down falls, just the other day i came across an article and a guy that said he would never buy DSS ever again..that just goes to show! |
