Question Top Dead Center

I need to change my timing belt. The Haynes Manual says to set the #1 piston at TDC using the timing indicator and the Distributor cap. My 4 cylinder 91 does not have a distributor cap... it's got some kind of computerized ignition system.

When I'm at TDC how do I know if I'm on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke if I don't have a distributor?
