Racing a SuperCharged Trans Am this weekend!!!
Well there is this guy that is always at our hangout with a LT1 SuperCharged Trans Am that is always putting down Fords. Him and his Dad built this car it's kinda both of thiers. I know the guy and talk to him pretty regular. Well he just got his car back together after blowing it up. He is wanting to run me. I told him I would because I have nothing to lose. I have very few mods (see sig) he has tons. Let me tell you what he has done to this car that I know of. First he has a Vortech SuperCharger with 8lbs of boost, FORD 9in with like 3.73's, intake work, ported and polished heads, a cam, bored to a 355, suspension work, and he is running on drag radials. Well anyways he ran another friend of mine that has an LS1 Z28 that runs about a full second slower than my car in the quarter. He only beat the Z by about 1-1/2 car lengths. Well we had already agreed to race each other before he raced the Z, but this just boosted my convidence. When we orginally set it up I didn't think I would be able to beat him, but I believe I can. I think I'm alot better driver than him. He is a high school kid that his Dad has built this car to make him think he is the man because he was getting beat up by everything when he was stock (before I had my Cobra). Well anyways we are running this weekend, and I will let you know how it turns out. Do you guys think I am nuts. I really think I can beat this guy or give him a run for his money!!!!
Let me know what ya'll think!!! ps: we are racing on the street

Technically, he should beat you IMHO. But will he? That's a COMPLETELY different question. Since you said you were a way better driver you should be able to get him off the line. Is it an auto or a manual? If it's a manual I bet he'll spin the sh!t of of his D/Rs on the launch, and probably on the 1-2 shift.
He is definitely making a LOT more power than you, but it's a street race. Anything can happen. Good luck and let us know what happens. |

He definetly should beat u. But if he doesn't know how to drive it especialy on the street u can destroy him. It is good to go anytoo any race thinking u are going to win though cuz u never know what will happen.

Is this a regular 350 that they built or a LT1?
LT1s have a compression ratio in the neighborhood of 10.5:1, so I doubt he would able to run 8lbs of boost without running into some sort of problem. Also, he is only 1 1/2 car lengths faster than your friends LS1 Camaro, which is a second slower than your near stock Cobra. Something doesn't add up in my opinion.

Well, no offence but if he has a blower, headwork, intake work, cam , gears, DR's he should kill you without even trying. That should be a high 11sec car, you are maybe running (i'm guessing) a mid 13 with your mods.
As far as a second faster than an LS1, it is all driver on the street. BUT, on the street anything can happen. If you are a better driver go for it, nothing to loose.

It is a manual. He probably won't spin because he don't launch so I hoping to put a few car lengths on him there. (as long as I don't spin beause I'm going to launch hard) if he is not right with at the top of 3rd I will probably just stop pulling give him the flashers and turn around and come back. I'm not going to let him just run me down if his car is pulling real hard on the top end. It is an LT1 but he dropped his compression to about 9 with the new pistons. He also ran the Z on the streets. I ran 13.3 @ 104 on the track, the Z ran 14.4@? on the track he didn't spin so I know it wasn't that. I am not making it up so if it doesn't add up sorry, but that is the way it is.
The only reason I'm racing him is to try and shut him up. That is the only way it will happen is if some FORD that doesn't have near the same amount of stuff on it beats him. He always wants to run cars that doesn't have as much stuff on their car as he does, that way he can win the race. If someone has as much as he does he won't run them. Anyways I figured it is worth a shot if I don't win, I didn't back down from a race. No offense taking Hyper92gt. I know technically I should lose, but this guy hasn't showed me anything. He claims that the car can run 8.00's in the eighth all I have seen it run low to mid 9's which the same night I did run the car. This was before he blow it up. He was only running 4lbs of boost, but this was the outcome. My 60ft was a 2.01 (one of my worst) his car (mech driving)his 60ft 2.04 pull away from him second and 3rd put about 3-4 car lenghths. Times were a 8.82 to 9.33 that was my worst run of the night. The best my car has done in the eigth is a 8.39. So I don't think it is unreasonable. Anyways it will be fun!!!!!!

Well I agree then you should race him. On paper his car looks killer, but in the real world s/c cars need, require, the right tuning to make them run well.
You are running some good times for that vert. Go spank his butt and show him you dont need a s/c to keep up. Post results!

And definitly don't let him catch you on the top end. You may be quicker, but after hes done spinning he'll be faster. Kick his a** for all of us.

Man, this guy's car sounds like a piece of wood. It should be waaay faster with all of those mods, especially with 8 lbs of boost.
Go kick his butt & enjoy every minute of it! Let us know how it turns out!

14.4 for an LS1? That is horrible, horible driving. I run a consistent 13.4 all stock, right down to the stock filter, and yes it's an auto. What is this crap about just racing up to third, and then turning around? And this guy isn't going to launch, he's just what...going to take off real slow? I don't understand......doesn't really seem like a race to me, if he is going to do that? With the mod's you listed, at the track he "should" be deep into the 11's. Even with horrible driving I think he would be able to pull a mid 12. Unless the guy is just a horrible driver, doesn't launch at all, and misses 2 gears, your going to LOSE more than likely, but the name of the game is traction.

Sorry, but your chances dont look good. With that much power the only way you can win if he can't put it to the ground.
Even if he cant launch he may catch you by half track. Borrow a set of slicks and some N20. That will even it up. Skyler

Come on guys, Vortech with 8lbs of boost, ford 9 inch, 3:73's, intake work, ported and polished heads, a cam, a rebuilt motor bored to a 355, suspension work, drag radials........I really could care less what kind of car it is, I mean even if it was a GT with all those mod's, he's still going to get spanked. I was stating my 13.4, because someone said 14.4 for an LS1? and basing that on what was going to happen, because this car beat the LS1 by so much.....Even if he dosn't get the traction with Dr's, he'll more than likely beat you, REAL BAD.

CobraConv99- Do you have any idea what mph the Camaro trapped at when he ran the 14.4? How about the trap speeds for any of the 1/8 mile runs (Camaro or Trans Am)?
Anyways, I would be pretty upset if I had a built 355 w/ 8lbs of boost (and all the other mods), and I only beat a mid/low 14 second car by 1 1/2 lengths.

I know he won't spanked real bad though. I'm not saying that I am definitely going to win, but I giving a shot. I know most people wouldn't, but I'm not scared to lose to a guy with all this. I will know how I match up this guy. Quote:
Once again thanks for responding!!!

Did he run that 14.4 before the engine blew up? Could be something wrong with the car.

I know some LS1's run 14's with a bad driver, I wasn't saying they don't. But maybe the guy just had a bad run? And then he really runs 13's, and the T/A beat him them by a few lengths?? I don't know...forget what I was saying....it's all in the launch, and with 4:10's and traction I think you might just take it to him! Good luck.

I'm am of the opinion the LT1 will lose. It's going to blow up as soon as he gets on it, LOL.
I would really doubt a stock LS1 running a 14.4. That's just not normal. I don't like the LS1, but it's quicker than that with a decent driver. An LT1, will have to add 100hp over stock to run with you. If this guy has what he does, it should have that and more. It's all tough to say though on the street. Consistant 13.4's. Set's a new best so now it's consistant? LOL. |

Yup, pretty consistent. I've ran 13.4 almost every run. And what was your last run at the track? Oh yea I forgot....
