![]() Dan,
Would it be possible to add a feature that allows users to mark a post as useful in only the technical forums? Nothing more or less than that. Then you could rate a user based on how useful other people find their posts. I'm sure that Chris will rate very high in that respect. You could also use the same information to have a list of posts that are found to be the most useful. It may actually develop to be an automatically generated FAQ. Just an idea.

![]() jimberg - I think your idea, in theory, is good. However, we already have the 'star' rating system thingy and it seems to be used very infrequently.

jimberg: Thanks for the input. Rather than increase competition for some sort of subjective rating that places one member above another based on a vague criteria of their posts 'usefulness' I would prefer to allow individual members to simply make their own judgements on any members posts based on what they see for themself. We don't need popularity contests and no matter how you try to structure it, marking posts as 'useful' is akin to doing just that. As Eric stated, we have the 'star rating' system and it's infrequently used, as you know. I'm sure everyone is aware of PKRWUD's expertise and trust his advice. I do. Same with a few other members; one builds a reputation here and that should be the main basis of judgement, as I see it. Popularity contests are not trustworthy guides to anyones expertise.

![]() jimberg - what you are describing will be supported in the future version of vBulletin 3.0, which is now in development and alpha testing. It has a system built into it called, "Karma" ratings. It allows members to "rate" other members on the forums. In essence, I would guess that it is kind of like how you can rate sellers on eBay or even rate posts here now with star ratings. All the member input is probably averaged together to come up with each person Karma rating.
I will definitely upgrade the forums to 3.0 when it becomes publically available. At that time we'll (the staff) will evaluate the system and decide whether we are going to use it. It just depends actually how it works and how useful the ratings meaning is. Any ways, other features coming include (pulled this from vBulletin's site): This is by no means exhaustive, and should not be regarded as perfectly accurate: not everything was recorded in the todo and some things were changed too. Added Features: --to the user interface General * Quick registration system...username, password, email and any required custom fields and timezone * Pop-up auto-refreshing buddylist with ICQ-style alerts when new buddies come online. You'll find a link in the temp buttons top right in the nav bar. * Show the title of the last posted to thread for each forum on index.php * Subscription to Threads/Forum without receiving e-mails * Favorite threads - you don't get email from these either. * User rating - Karma * User ranking * Password break-in watches -- too many failed attempts warning with a preset wait after too many failures. * Threaded view * Password protected forums * Similar threads display * Send an email "thanks for registering and welcome to .." on user registration (welcome email) * Validity check for homepages * Search engine friendly archive of open forums * Happy b'day emails * Much improved calander system (too many changes to mention) * hit counter on announcements * Digests: new posts/threads in selected forums daily/weekly/monthly * "excerpt of message:" are now in the new reply email notifications * 'report post to mod' sends anonymous copy to the original poster of the message * Restyled FAQ section now looks similar to a forum Posting * WYSIWYG Editor for major text input fields (IE 5.5+Only) * Minimum number of characters in post * Insert smilie/vB code where cursor is (IE 5+ Only) * Preview on edit * Ability to add attachment when editing a post instead of just when creating * Reason for editing * Reason for deleting(for admins and mods) User CP - Profile * User Pictures - user can upload a personal picture. This picture is shown in the profile of the user. * Completely revamped PM system (currently in work) * Longer signature field with optional limit Search * Get daily for just one category * Search only in subscribed forums * A list of ignored words or words used in a search are added to the results page * Option to find only started by 'username' * Display matching forums in results * Support for searching custom profile fields * Search for exact username (e.g. turn off wildcards) Polls * Option for users to see who voted for which option (public vote) * When you vote your name is highlighted when viewing results * Poll results ordered by most to less voted * Ability to post a poll AFTER a thread had started Usability * Hitting the back button no longer necessary when you have too many images * Option to save cookie *on this computer* when logging in * Login/logout ability in all pages, with user/pass form -- single login system

![]() In the suggestion category, I would like to see more emphasis put on searching previous threads. Alot of questions have been answered time and time again. I think its kind of silly to have 2 "How do I check my TPS" threads going at once, when a simple search would bring up several threads explaining exactly how to do it. Andy

![]() I still want my custom text...I have nearly 600(or more...not sure really) so I should be able to have custom text under my name....600 posts for a guy who doesn't own a mustang on a mustang message board is a hell of a lot!!!

![]() The only reason why I even noticed that post count gone was the fact like ppl here like RBatson who didn't have pic avatar, I noticed that the writing was too small in that space. When I looked at it closer, thats when I noticed.
Hey Mach 1, is that a Pantra that I see in your avatar?!?

![]() I for one enjoyed the post count. I haven't seen many post wh0res around here in my travels, so I can't comment on that. I do know this... I have been here for quite awhile and when the board got reset or whatever happened, I lost all 1300 of my posts. Now I have like less than 100 I think. I don't care if people judge me by my post count because I don't post unless I have something relevant to say. My number will never be really high because I am too busy to post 20x a day. In any case, if it ever comes to a vote I'd like to have the counter back on the messages.
Bob

![]() I had the change to race one down the highway back in 90 or 91. It wasn't that fast and boy did it stink up the highway. It looked real cool, though.

![]() It was running really rich at WOT and emitted some serious, eye-watering fumes. My Mustang was stock and we pretty much stayed even.

![]() I believe the one in my avatar is specially moddified for racing. Your average Pantera doesnt look like that.
I have a personal love for the 351 Clevland with closed chamber 4v heads. Awesome engine with awesome potential, and to have it in a car like the pantera, in mid engine format, well, lets just say I would love to have one. As far as being "stinky", probably because of the no emmissions, catilytic converters, poorly tuned, etc... If Jimberg could hang with one in a stock mustang, you can count on it being poorly tuned or in need of an overhaul. I dont know how much horsepower they were rated at, but my 71' mustang fastback had a completly stock 351C, rated at 280 HP, and that car was very fast. |
